4070 #281 on W357 wrapper to Germany, both canceled by small, indistinct oval killers. Very scarce and unusual combination paying a 6 cent (6x) rate. $45
4071 #268 tied by BOSTON, MASS, CAMB[ridge] station double oval killer on printed label to Societe Malacalogique, Bruxelles, Belgium, from museum at Harvard. Scarce use and rate foreign destination. Stamp has small bottom right corner fault. SOLD
4006 #211 pair, VF, plus #205, fine, tied by ST. LOUIS, MO double oval station C postmarks on illustrated publisher's advertising #U277 cover paying registry to Germany, New York, NY Exchange registry label, 1885 use.  A scarce combination of features make this a desirable destination usage. $250
3910 #189, faults, tied by NYC 12/26/83 ellipse killer on legal size envelope to SCOTLAND, Packet Letter Glasgow back stamp, red INSUFFICIENT ADDRESS and NOT CALLED FOR, purple crowned Glasgow Returned Letter Branch.  Stamp has unusual printing variety.  Nice markings, interesting cover. $35

3867 #185, VF, corner fault UR, tied by NEWPORT, RI postmark and geometric killer on VF intact mourning cover to Italy, back stamped ROMA, 1882. Pretty. SOLD
3806 #W120, VF wrapper entire to DENMARK, canceled by a VF strike of 1885 NYC double ring oval foreign mail postmark. Reverse bears a nice blue strike of the seal of the Royal Danish Consulate of New York. Pretty. $40

3679 #210 pair + #206, fine, minor foxing, cancelled by F-VF strike of OGDEN & SAN FRAN R.P.O. 1886 postmark (Towle & Meyer 976-D-2) and triply struck bold letter E killer on fine intact cover to Switzerland, back stamps. SOLD

2951 #210, VF, on U163 unreduced entire, 1886 New Bedford, CT to Great Britain. Addressee could not be found. Cover opened in error and officially resealed by the British postal service (Drummond OS1, a seal used to repair letters damaged in the mails and to reclose letters opened in error, as here attested by post office docketing on reverse).  Cover, returned to sender, bears a variety of markings, including, Washington, DC Dead Letter Office triangle on reverse and purple pointing hand.  Scarce and desirable usage.

2310 #UX3, fine, with fine #156, to Austria, bearing two VF strikes of NYC positive 8 in circle killer, postmarked JAN 23, 1874, with red NY JAN 24 transit mark and black DOBLING receiving marks on front. By the Weiss standard, this cancellation now qualifies as a NYFM usage.  Scarce and attractive use of this New York City killer to a foreign destination.

1900 #281, VF, 1901 NYC ellipse killer ties with Mexican 5 centavo stamp postmarked Guadalahara. Cover originated in Mexico, mailed to New York where U.S. postage was added and cover sent to Thomas Cook & Sons forwarding agent, Venice, Italy, then forwarded to Taomina, Sicily.  Appropriate back stamps, half inch cover tear at top.  A VF mixed franking usage. $150 n1900.jpg (38557 bytes)
