1861-67 Issues, Stamps (#4)

Item # Description Price Picture
4962 #88 E grill, average-fine, tiny faults, canceled by a superb strike of a script negative US, so clear that you can see the tails on both the U and S. Partial postmark capture at left, town of unknown origin, unlisted in references.  An incredible cancel.  Ex-Hubert Skinner.  (HCS) $150
4958 #65, fine, fresh and sound, bearing an XF-superb SOTN strike of US fancy patriotic killer from TROY, NY (Skinner-Eno PT-US 9). Beautiful fancy cancel, ex-Hubert Skinner. (HCS)

SOLD

4767 #65, fine, sound, bearing a superb SOTN strike of large incised star of David with hollow central pentagram fancy killer. While similar in style to other listed killers, this is somewhat larger than those. Great stamp! $40
4741 #65, fine, small perf faults at left, bearing a fine SOTN strike of very scarce reversed "NIX" killer of Woonsocket Falls, R.I.  Neat item.

SOLD

4620 #94, fine, sound, canceled by an XF strike of a red leaf killer, probably from New York City. Pretty. $35
4569 #65, fine, bearing an XF SOTN strike of large New York City elaborate shield in circle killer (Skinner-Eno PS-FC 45). Stamp has tiny perf thin at bottom, is otherwise sound. A rare and terrific patriotic fancy cancel.  (HCS) $150
4561 #65, fine sound pair, right stamp canceled by an XF SOTN strike of outline 4-point star circular geometric killer (Skinner-Eno GE-C 94), New York City double ring postmark on left stamp, a gorgeous multiple.  (HCS)

SOLD

4562 #88 E grill, somewhat freakishly centered, large left wing margin copy, canceled by an XF SOTN strike of New York City small shield in heart killer (Skinner-Eno PH-H 45). Quite scarce fancy cancel.  (HCS)

SOLD

4556 #65, fine, sound, bearing an XF SOTN strike of unusual geometric killer (Whitfield 2651, similar to S-E GE-H 2) composed of negative Maltese cross in internal pentagram surrounded by dual overlaid pentagrams. Probable NYC.  (HCS) $100
4577 #65, fine, sound, canceled by a bold, XF negative cross with interior sold square killer (Whitfield 3032, unlisted in Skinner-Eno). This is an unattributed but verified New York City fancy killer.  (HCS)

SOLD

4554 #65, VF, tied by two XF strikes of solid 8-point star with hollow center and NEW YORK DEC 27 postmark on piece. Killer is unlisted in Skinner-Eno but similar to types ST-7P 3 and ST-7P 6.  (HCS) $30
4169 #65, fine, sound, bearing two strikes of very unusual 13-ring blue target killer, unlisted target/ring variety. $10
4136 #94, XF, tiny faults, canceled by an XF-superb SOTN strike of fancy incised triangle killer of GREENFIELD, MA (Skinner-Eno GE-T 21). A very eye-catching stamp. SOLD
4137 #94, average, several unpunched perfs at right, creased, bearing an XF SOTN strike of KENNEBUNKPORT, ME fancy lozenge killer (Skinner-Eno PP-Fl 37/38). $25
3916 #94, avg, small faults, bearing a superb SOTN strike of letter W killer, which appears to be Waterbury, CT, Rohloff type K-12. Nice. $40
2695 #65, VF, fresh, sound, intense color, cancelled by a SOTN strike of a bright green grid killer. A beautiful example of this very scarce color cancellation, rarely found this nice.  2006 PFC, states that stamp is "genuine, slightly oxidized", a bit harsh for this beautiful stamp.  (Click on stamp image for enlarged scan.) SOLD
2220 #65, fine, bearing a superb SOTN strike of positive letter L killer and partial postmark from Lockport, NY (Skinner-Eno LS-L 1). Stamp has small perf faults. $20
2074 #65, superb sound stamp, strong perforations all around, bearing a gem strike of a fancy outline heart killer from Canaan 4 Corners, New York. (Stamp removed from faulty cover, to which it was tied.) WOW! (2003 PSE certificate.)

SOLD

685 #94, F-VF, shallow grill thin, bearing VF strike of bold "W" cancellation of Waterbury, CT (Skinner-Eno LS-W 9). Portion of Waterbury postmark at top.  Scarce. SOLD
